You should be able to find several things that interest you on the Journees du Patrimoine weekend, no matter whether you're in a city or near villages. We've been going to the same rural area for years and are still finding new places to visit. We aim to see places that are not usually open to the public.

The national website isn't aware of what's going on at the local level, so you would need to check the local newspapers and tourist offices of wherever you'll be then.

This is one of our favorite events each September. I can never see too many stone manor houses, mills, chateaux, or gardens.
