Itinerary advice requested for Prague, Vienna and Budapest

Jump to last reply

We are planning a transatlantic cruise in the Spring from the US to Barcelona, then spending 12 nights in Eastern Europe. We enjoy history, art/architecture, wandering old towns and farmers markets, mingling with the locals, lazing at cafes, etc. We prefer not to deal with a rental car. I realize there are a lot of varying personal opinions on how much time to spend in each city, but I’d appreciate any suggestions to improve this plan. Eg, is there any reason to start in Budapest instead? Or any specific hints on the transportation logistics? (We will each have a 26” suitcase.) We have not been to any of these cities or their countries. Thank you in advance!

Monday: Fly BCN to Prague, arrive early evening
Tues, Wed, Thurs: in Prague (3 days)

Friday: Train (or bus?) to Vienna, arrive late afternoon
Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues: Vienna, including a day trip to Melk on Monday (4 days)

Wed: Train (or bus?) to Budapest, arrive at noon
Wed pm, Thurs, Fri: Budapest (2.5 days)
Sat: fly home
