Juliano - I think that I would try to put my stay in Iceland at the end of the trip. not only is it likely to be warmer, but the days will be longer too, which if you are hoping to do a lot of driving could be useful.

warmer? I think Reykyavik is a steady 40-50 F any time of year - seems to be very little variation, at least in that amount of time

but I guess even a few degrees helps - it will still be cool and wet and cool and damp and cool...

I'd do Iceland at the end of the trip. It will give it time to warm up and for roads to reopen.

Pal - when we went to Iceland a few years ago we arrived in the middle of a heat wave - it was 70F at 10 pm in Reykjavik and of course, being July, it was light virtually all night.

I'm not saying that you're not right about average temps, but warmer [and colder] cannot be ruled out.

Actually annhig after looking at the chart I linked to there is a noticeable bump in temps during May and you are right - guess my point is not to ever expect warm weather even in the dead of summer.

You can swim all year in Reykyavik's outdoor pools - even in the dead of a dark winter as they are naturally heated by thermal pools of water that lay underground - I think the city gets its heat from hot water from the ground - but go for a dip - kind of like a sauna when you get out!
