Itenary help req'd

I have 4-5 days to spare after travelling in Amsterdam. I'm thinking of visiting the neighbouring towns in Germany near to the borders of Netherlands. Any suggestions? I heard of Cologne and Mainz and Heideburg. Are they far off from Netherlands as my return flight is from Amsterdam. I'm interested in architectural and historical bldgs and nature. Pls help. I'll be in Germany by the last week of June. Thanks!

agxuslee: You will probably get a lot more response if you re-post with a title that explains where you are asking about. "Itinerary help req'd" could be about anywhere in Europe, and many/most threads on here are asking for itinerary help.

Something like "Suggestions for short break in Germany?"

I make it a habit of instructing others to post under better headers - - usually directing that advice at first time posters (and I see that "agxus" is fairly new here - - how do I know that? click on your own name - - a valuable tip that Fodors fails to give you in that initial e-mail that confirms your registration).

But I think that "itinerary help" (note spelling, agxus!) is a reasonable message header; unlike "help!" or "advice needed", you have a pretty good idea that this is an "early-in-the-planning" (set of) question(s) which may span multiple countries.

Sure, the header could be better... like... "Seeking advice on an itinerary into Germany, originating from Amsterdam"...

But it's no worse than "Paris" or "need train help" - - in each case, anyone visiting this site and browsing through message headers has enough information to decide "do I want to stop and take a look at what this message is requesting?"

The ideal header more or less asks the core question right IN the header... but only a small minority of posts do that.

It's worth noting that no matter how lengthy, or how terse the message headers... the "first page" shows the 50 most recently posted questions, whether they take up "ten inches"... or a hundred.

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi
If you are going to be In Germany check out Trier. A very old german city dating back to roman days. If yoiu have the time Maastricht in the Netherlands, close to the border and an old university city. a really nice place.
