Italy: What do you think about Trevi?

Looking for rants and raves, good to know info and recommendations on things to do and see, places to eat and moderate hotels
(dbl 80-140E).

Lord, this place looks steep. Thought it might be easy to reach from Spoleto, Assisi, and Spello via train. Where else might I go via train or bus?

Also looking for views, flowers and maybe some opportunities for hiking, vineyards, olive orchards?

If able to only do one, would you see Spello or Trevi?

Spello and Trevi are both great small hilltowns. You could see both in one day they are so close to each other. If I had to pick one, I would choose Spello because the churches there are full of amazing art. Both towns are incredibly steep; I recall Spello as the only "all uphill" town I've ever encountered. There is a wonderful restaurant just off the highway under Trevi (the tiny town of Pigge) called Pescatore which you should try. It's best in nice weather when you can sit under a canopy beside the little creek.

Degas? I thought you travelled in Italy in your Ferrari!

I know of the Trevi Fountain and wondered where you were talking about so I googled it and found the Town.

Amazing place there to stay; built in 1650... Antica DiMora alla Rocca!

Their superior rooms have jacuzzis! Ohlala...a day of hiking, photog opps and drinking wine then a nice soak before dinner? (Also, the "ad" said the rooms were less than 80E's... )

FWIW, I second the vote for Taverna del Pescatore. Its on the right (west) side of the road and there's only one little sign at the turnoff. Wouldn't think of being in the vicinity without dining there.

Thanks for the inputs so far. That steep? I sure like to walk, but not straight up and down.

SuzieC, sad to say that my Ferrari was repossessed. I thought I only had to make quarterly payments and they expected monthly payments. The nerve of some shady car dealers!

Looks like Trevi might be a good base for doing Central Umbria witout a car.
