Italy weather in March/April
We are under a month now for our Italy trip, and are starting to plan for "packing light". We will be in Rome, Siena, Florence, and Pisa (plus 2 days in London for the return trip) from March 30-April 4th. Can anyone let me know what to expect for weather, and also suggestions for types of clothing?

Although you could luck out with unseasonable warmth, you have to pack for true Spring weather (possibility of rain, chilly breezes and evenings), just like in most of America. Siena and Firenze may be chillier than Rome. Remember that you are likely to be spending most of your time outdoors.
Waterproof shoes are a necessity. You can buy an umbrella if you need one very easily in any of the towns you are going. But take with you fleece or a leather jacket, plus a warm scarf, and long meadium weight bottoms. That will be good enough, but if you are particularly prone to feeling chilly, real or fake thermals are great for underclothes. They weigh nothing and take up no space in your luggage. |
We were in Tuscany the last week of March in '04, and it snowed a little at some higher elevations. The countryside was beautiful.

We traveled to Rome, Venice and Lucca (near Pisa) in mid-April 2003 and had lovely weather. Mid 50's up to mid 60's for temps. Bring layers. I bought some lightweight travel pants that I could roll up for capris and lived in them. We didn't do anything dressy (travelling with kids) and 1 fleece and 1 sweater did the trick. Bring a scarf for dressing something up. Good luck!

Thanks!! We live in Southern California, so we are definately not used to "chilly" temps!! I hope I can find the "fake thermals" that nessundorma mentioned.

Hi,
See if you can find something you like here. http://www.essentialapparel.com/jump...amp;itemID=158 Or check out L.L. Bean, which has silk long underwear that is machine (or sink) washable. I used to live in SoCal, so I know what you mean. As a travel investment these are great and besides, you can wear them as pajamas on those chilly December nights. |
