Hank,

Could you please ask your wife what the pottery is like at the market in Siena, or was she just interested in shoes. :-)

Thank you

Pat May 15th, 2001 03:06 PM

The market in Siena is just a big outdoor mall. The pottery is more the stuff they would use everyday with some nice stuff thrown in. There are several pottery shops on the street leading to the Duomo. If you have any more questions about shopping please feel free to e-mail me. Ciao

Hank, when is the market day at Siena? I would love to time my Siena visit with the market day (I am a market addict, I have to go to a local market everytime I travel to Europe!). Thanks.

Pat May 15th, 2001 06:20 PM

Market day in Siena is every Wednesday. It starts around 8a and closes around 2.
It is a fantastic Market. We always plan our trip to Siena so we (really just me) can go to it.

Hank,
Can you tell me the times that the gregorian chants are sung at Sant Antimo? How about on Sundays?? Your trip sounded delightful- we are returning in two weeks after having such a lovely time last year. I am trying to compile some more info before we leave.
Thanks
Mary

Pat May 16th, 2001 06:00 PM

The Monks at San Antimo sing Mass in gregorian chant on sundays at 11:00 am
It is a beautiful experience. I have even bought the CD the Monks sell (yes even the monks are into marketing) so I can listen to them at home. Hope you have a wonderful trip....Pat

Thanks Pat!
Referring again to the monks at the Sant Antimo abbey--- is Sunday at 11 the only time that the monks sing?
Thanks
Mary

Mary, Go to www.cohenkenny.com for more about St. Antimo. They have a pic of the posting on the door that I could not figure out. I was there at 11:00 on a Thurs. and missed it---still worth the trip.

Marija May 17th, 2001 05:18 AM

A couple of years ago the monks chanted several times each day. The schedule was open 5:45 am (30min chant), 7 am (30 min) 9 am(15 min) 12:45 (15 min) 2:45 (15 min) 6:30 (30 min) 8:30 (20 min). Sung Mass Mon-Sat 9 am, Sunday 11 am. I have no idea whether this is still the schedule. Try to hear a chant, it's memorable.

Hank

Yahoo, we found your website, a major achievement! It helped us relive the trip. We had a great time and your planning and guidance made it much smoother. Great report too.

Marija, you're right about the schedule for the monks at Sant Antimo's. We were just there last week and heard them at 2:45 - truly a mystical experience.

Joe May 21st, 2001 03:15 AM

Just to tos in my 2 cents about St. Antimo---My wife and I had the pleasure of being directed there by our Pennucia Barberi of our Agraturismo Le Traverse in Pienza for Easter morning mass. The mass (a High Mass) was done by 12 monks---all in white robes and sung in Gregorian chant! It was a very spiritual experience
