Italy trip itinerary: please comment!
I am planning a 10-day trip to Italy - mainly Tuscany - and this is what I'm thinking of:
3 days in Rome 5 nights at agroturismo in Chianti 2 nights in montepulciano area Is it a good idea to divide Tuscany up like this? Thanks! |
For my tastes, it is too much rural sameness. Montepulciano is charming but small. Unless you have specific things to do in the area, I would not want to spend 2 nights there. And five nights at an agroturismo is a long time. If the countryside appeals to you, great, but it could get boring for some.
Have you been to Italy before? Will you be seeing Florence or Siena? What about Venice for a couple of days? I like "slow travel" myself, but this sounds good to me only if your seeking total relaxation over sightseeing. |
From my point of view,I like your itinerary as long as you have a car. From the Chianti area, you can break up country life with visits to busy Siena, San Gimignano, or Florence while also enjoying visits to smaller towns...while staying in Montepulciano will allow you to visit a few other small towns. We have stayed in Rome and Tuscany previously...this summer, similar to your plans, we will be spending 4 nights outside of Greve in the Chianti region and 4 nights outside of Montepulciano.
cheers, CC |
I should have explained that while staying in the agroturismo, we will be doing day trips to Florence, Siena, etc. So I don't see the "rural sameness" issue that much. In fact, we might stay there for a full week and just make it our base for exploring!

Well, then it sounds just fine! I had imagined you admiring the same view and milking the cows for five days straight :)

I like it but would prefer 4-3 in Tuscany.
