Italy Travel

We are planning a trip to Italy in September for 10-12 days. Would it be better to leave for Italy around Sept. 12th or wait and leave around the last week of September? We are trying to make our decision based on crowds and higher prices due to tourist season.

The later in September, the fewer the crowds. But there wil still be crowds in the most popular cities.

It depends on where you are going. If you are going to big cities, they are always crowded. I've been to Tuscany/Umbria hill towns several times in early and late September and didn't find crowds either time. Some towns were quite deserted.

Probably 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other. If you are planning a special tour, check availability-but I'd think such things are still in place through October.

I agree that Italian travel can be quite crowded at time, but most tourists will be gone during the end of the summer but the cities themselves are going to be crowded all of the time. But it wont be as bad as if you went mid August. Check out this site for more info: http://www.italy4real.com
