Italy trains..will the schedule in February be similar to now?

Does anyone know if the schedule is similar all year...do they run less trains in the winter? I'm looking at the line between Florence, Bologna and Venice and possibly Rome to Florence. Just trying to plan an itinerary which will include several train trips. Thanks.

Hi TF - 'Does anyone know if the schedule is similar all year'

Yes. Those are main line routes - with frequent services throughout the day, summer and winter.

You really don't need to worry ...

The trick with Italian trains is whether they are on time, and that applies year round.

I mention this so that you don't plan an itinerary that crucially depends on a train getting you someplace by a fixed time. For instance, if you are going to Italy to see the Uffizi, don't make your reservation for, say, an hour after you think your train will be arriving in Firenze. Likewise, I never rely on an ordinary Italian train for making a flight. (The airport shuttles, however, are reliable for that)

The highspeed line between Milan and Bologna is supposed to open this year, and the Bologna - Florence section (which is very slow right now) sometime next year.

The completion of those projects may change the schedule a bit. But frequencies will remain, probably increased.

Consider day of the week--can vary on weekends.
