Italy Train Question
 

Hi there,<BR><BR>I hope this hasnt been asked before, but can you &quot;hop on, hop off&quot; trains for example, could we hop off at a stop between Venice and Rome for lunch, and then get back on?<BR><BR>Thanks!<BR>Jamie

You mean, get back on a different train?<BR>Not if you have reserved seats on the first train. And how about luggage? (although some train stations have storage still, I hope)

Jamie - Yes you can. Your ticket is valid for 24 hours after you validate it. <BR><BR>It's not a problem if you travel on INTERCITY trains.<BR><BR>If you use EUROSTAR trains (where seat reservations are obligatory) you will have to pay a seat reservation fee for the second train.<BR><BR>Steve

Italian train tickets are valid for two months from purchase. Before joining the train, you stamp the ticket in a yellow machine, and the ticket is then valid for six hours (for a short journey) or up to 48 hours for the longest journey. Within that time you can break the journey as much as you like, but any seat reservations will obviously only apply on the trains specified on the ticket. You have to pay a supplement for intercity trains, so make sure your ticket includes this if you use one. From Venezia to Roma, you could stop for lunch in, say, Bologna (there is left luggage in the station and lots of restaurants nearby, and a self-service restaurant in the station); in this case, it would be better to reserve a seat for the Bologna-Roma journey.
