Italy to Greece
I'm looking for good travel tips please on getting from Italy to Greece either by boat or plane.

You can start your research by typing your title into the searchfield to see if others have asked similar questions. Also, go to Yahoo or Google and type the same thing. It will show you rail and plain and boat information, like this:

AlpiEagles has cheap flights from Venice. Aegean Airlines has cheap flights from Rome and Milan.

We found that flying was best for our money and time. Aegean flies from Rome to Athens. I believe our flights were around $130 (one way) each.

Hi Heyjudeb,
In 2004 I took a ferry from Bari to Patras, the name of the ferry line escapes me now, (Blue Star????) but if you do a search I'm sure you can find something. It took approximately 14hours. There were a few options to choose from in terms of accomodations, we chose to simply reserve a seat, which was uncomfortable to sleep on, but we survived. You can also reserve a "couchette" type room where you may be with other passengers, or you can reserve a private room. There were public showers on the ship, a few restaurants, a gift shop, a lounge etc. While we left from Bari, there are also ships leaving from Brindisi and Ancona I believe. Have a great trip!! Many years ago I took a ferry from Brindisi Italy to Greece. I was a poor student then. Brindisi was a pretty raunchy place at that time, but cheap fare..

Thank you all for such quick replies. I'm going to look into each one of them.

There are ferries from the Italian ports of Venezia, Ancona, Bari and Brindisi. The three best operators are Minoan Lines (www.minoan.gr), Superfast/Blue Star (www.superfast.com or www.bluestarferries.com) and ANEK (www.anek.gr). Their ships have the usual cabins, restaurants, bars, sun decks and swimming pools. Arriving in Venezia by sea is the best introduction to the city.

We wanted to visit Italy and Greece as well. We leave June 26th.
We are flying to Rome, staying there 4 days, then cruising to Greece. We cant wait!! Anyway, we decided to take a Royal Caribbean Cruise from Rome to Greece. It ends up back in Rome (so flights are in and out of Rome). |
We took the ferry recently from Venice to Patras ( near Athens) and really enjoyed it.
Venice is a spectacular port to leave from and there is such a wonderful old world feel about this kind of travel. We had such a wonderful time on this ferry as well as the one from Barcelona to Rome. Here is what I wrote about the experience on our blog: http://www.soultravelers3.com/blog/2...CB8044C15.html The rainbow in the middle of the Adriatic was a lovely addition as well as the pool. A great slow travel option. ( There are shorter ferries between Italy and Greece if that appeals more). A cabin is sooo much more comfortable than a plane!! |
is there much to see in Bari?

Easyjet flies from Milan to Athens.
