Italy Taxi Question

Heading to Italy again soon, this time on my own and have question about taxi meters. I never seem to know which meter shows the amount due. All of the taxis I have been in have two meters, I know one should be the time and the other the amount, but never know which is which. Any pointers?

Time is using the 24 hour clock. 09:10:00 is 9:10am and 21:10:00 is 9:10pm, etc.

The meter does not have a palin clock. The time is expressed in seconds. Yet, meters are very different one from another, so are the tariffs, that vary city from city. The best you can do is ask the driver!

There should be one meter, but it is capable of different rates. I wrote about this on my blog... In my opinion, the fear of taxis in Rome and elsewhere in Italy is overkill. You just need to know what zone you will be traveling in (or out of)...
