Italy slurge

I was hoping to plan "one" splurge (fabulous hotel) in Italy. I realize everyone has different tastes, which city and hotel would you splurge for?

Thank you all =)
Natalie

Positano !
Poseidon or Palazzo Murat is a splurge for me.

Eleni May 19th, 2005 10:41 AM

Where in Italy are you going? There are fabulous splurge hotels all over the country!

Grasshopper May 19th, 2005 10:44 AM

When you choose your splurge remember that your splurge money will go a lot further in some places in Italy than in others. For example, a modest hotel in Venice may seem like a splurge. For your itinerary I think Hotel Lungarno in Florence would be my splurge. The other locales are splurge enough.

Eleni,

I'm going for my honeymoon 16 nights:

1) Venice
-Maybe Lake Garda
2) Florence
3) Tuscany
4) Positano
-Maybe a few nights in Ravello
5) Rome

How do you suggest I spend my 16 nights? I'm open to your recommendations. We have a reasonable budget $500+ per night for hotels.

Thanks in advance,
Natalie

$500 per night?! That's easily 3 times my budget! For that rate you could find a splurge at every locale. If you do go to Garda, check out Villa Cortine Palace.

You posted the same question yesterday with a lot of great answers. Try looking at your post by clicking on your underlined name.

Hi Natc,

There were really so many great ideas on your other thread!

I loved Rex's idea, I copied and pasted the thread for you.

Grand Hotel Villa Feltrinelli, the site is www.villafeltrinelli.com, It's on Lake Gardo.

Now that is my idea of a splurge!

Have fun! :) T.

I think with a budget of $500.00 a night one could splurge all over Italy!! Do have a wonderful honeymoon natc!

Indeed LoveItaly, indeed!

<We have a reasonable budget $500+ per night for hotels>

For your "one splurge" you mean to spend even MORE than $500 per night?

If that's your average nightly hotel budget, you can easily splurge every place you stay.

Look at the website fot Hotel Russie in Rome. Fabulous.

Weadles May 19th, 2005 12:58 PM

It would be a toss-up for me between Le Sirenuse or Hotel Poseidon in Positano, and Hotel Lungarno or Villa San Michele in Florence/Fiesole.

DonnieD May 19th, 2005 03:07 PM

For me about 300 euro ($400) was as much of a splurge as I needed in Roma and Positano. I'd consider spending extra budget on meals, or a nice souvenir to take home.

WillTravel May 19th, 2005 03:14 PM

This price range is out of my league, but I'd suggest looking at the Luxury Hotels forum at Flyertalk.com .

Also, if you are planning to spend about 400 Euros per night, consider whether you want an "ordinary" room at a very "top" hotel, or perhaps a suite at a slightly "lesser" hotel.

I seem to recall that there are special deals with AMEX and getting upgrades with certain luxury hotels, but you can no doubt find that out at Flyertalk.com .

La Saracina in Tuscany near Pienza
http://www.lasaracina.it/menu_eng.htm

Very, very, very romantic and way under $500 per night. Tuscany is much less expensive than Rome, Venice etc...

Oh, sorry, you asked for a splurge...San Michelle. I have never stayed there, but I have dreamed of it many times.

Have a look at the websites for Travel & Leisure and Conde Nast Traveler - they both have annual best hotel in the world lists (compiled from reader opinions/experiences) . I've stayed at seveal of those listed for business (and even one or two for vacation) and they have all been fabulous.

I saw this old post from two years ago. Thanks fodors for your HELP back then! I came in handy for most of my recent trip.
