Italy:Seeking tips
 

I'm spending the first 2 weeks in october in Italy with my wife & 12 year old daughter. Flying British Airways to Milan & staying for 2 nights at the Hotel Adam. Then going to Venice for 3 nights staying at Le Boulevard Hotel. Then off to Rome for 3 nights at the Grand Hotel Olympic-Aurum Hotel. Finally to Florence for 3 nights at the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo. Any advice on how to travel between cities or any advice at all would be welcome. Also any feedback on hotels. Thanks

If that's your ininerary, you can easily travel between cities by train.

Have you tried a search on your hotels here by name? How did you choose them?

We have stayed at the Hotel Mediterraneo in Florence. It is right near the Arno river, and within easy walking distance to Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi Gallery, etc. (I am thinking about a mile to the Uffizi, but I might be off).

The hotel is an older hotel, but seemed well maintained. It is large, and the rooms were of average to slightly larger than average in size and well appointed.

There are hotels that are better, and even more central, but you will also pay more. By the way, what ARE you paying there?

Le Boulevard is not in Venice proper--it is on the Lido. The Lido is a beach resort--not at its peak in the month of October. Is there a particular reason that you selected a hotel on the Lido?

I believe the Le Boulevard Hotel is on the Lido. If so, you should think seriously about staying on the main part of Venice. Have a great trip !!! Mike

I am going from Venice to Rome, then to Florence because our flight home is out of Milan. I'd rather travel from Florence to Milan on our last day, than from Rome. Up for any sugestions. Thanks

I'm afraid I booked hotels a bit too quickly. I booked thru expedia.com & went with 3 stars out of 5, while being price conscience. I'm sure I can cancel with little penalty. Any lodging suggestions for Venice proper??? Thanks

Hello leSenator, I noticed on your other thread regarding Milan (where I posted) that you said you would be in Milan the night before your flight. IMHO this is an excellent idea unless your flight from Milan (assume it will be from Milpensa airport) leaves late in the day.

I wouldn't trust the train to get me from Florence to Milan early in the morning (last time I took a train from Florence it was 2 1/2 hours late), than you still would have to take the shuttle from the Milano train station to the airport and of course be there at least 2 hours before flight time etc.
