Italy Pronunciation Question

Can anyone tell me (or actually, type phonetically) how to pronounce San Quirica d' Orcia?

Thanks!

NoleNomad Feb 6th, 2008 08:14 AM

I think it's actually San Quirico d'Orcia. My best guess (I'm just starting to learn some Italian):

sahn kweerEEko dORcha

I may have the accent wrong on Quirico. If so, I'm sure someone else will jump in and correct me.

I suspect

sahn KWEEreeko DORcha

Asked my Italian friend. He says: san - qui (as in quit) - ree - ka (as in cat) - door- cha (as in chat)

Thanks for the insight!

I would concur with ellenem :-)

Agree with ellenem and enroute.

I was there with a native Italian and ellenem's phonetic pronunciation is correct.

However, to be reeeally precise, the final syllable should be "chee-a", but it's pronounced so quickly that it comes out as "cha".
