Italy or Ireland in March

My husband and I are planning a trip to Ireland or Italy in March. Which country do you think would be better to visit at this time of year?

We have been to Italy in March and Ireland in the end of February. I would choose Italy in a heartbeat. Ireland was nice, of course, but very dreary, rainy and cold. It was damp all the time and my hair took on a life of its own! Italy, especially Rome, was nice. Temps were warmer than I am used to in March, sun was usually shining, and very little crowds.

I should have mentioned that it was a little chilly and rainy in Umbria in March of last year, but nothing like Ireland was in late February of this year.

I was in Ireland in late March (the 22nd to April 3) this year. The weather was fabulous! I was there to visit my daughter and the two of us went to Paris in the middle of my visit. The only bad weather I saw the whole trip was two of the three days in Paris.

We were also in Ireland the previous March (the 25th to the 31st). It rained the the first two days, was gorgeous the next two and mixed the next.

I've never had the good fortune to visit Italy. So I couldn't begin to tell you what to expect there in March. Maybe the odds of good weather would be better there. But I just wanted to pass along my experience with Ireland in March!

I was in Itally in March a few years ago. It was cool and damp in Venice, but after a few days there that it was sunny and warm in Rome (up to 80f).
