Italy - Modena, Maranello area

Has anyone explored these small towns about
one hour north of Florence? Had any luck in
touring the Ferrari factory or museum, or
Lamborghini, etc?
We'll take a rental car from Florence for a
day and hope to see some sites that would
please an Italian car enthusiast. Would love any suggestions and do's and dont's. Thanks from a first-time overseas traveller!!

Eliz, we haven't done it yet but are planning to stop to see the Ferrari museum in early May. My husband loves sports cars and if there's anything related to them wherever we go, we HAVE to see it. We are driving from Cinque Terra to Venice so will stop on the way, which is actually pretty convenient compared to some of his adventures! He has learned that you must own a Ferrari in order to get the factory tour. We'll be interested to see the responses you get.

My friend visited the Ferrari museum.. said it was ok but not great. Keep in mind the only way you can see the actual factory is buy purchasing a Ferrari.

no admittance to Ferrari factory unless you own two Ferraris you have to supply the VIN numbers in advance through a dealer. The museum is OK.
the town however is charming and you can hear the growl of those engines long before they tear around a curve!!

I, too, have been told that you must be a Ferrari owner to tour that factory. Does anyone know if the same is true for Lamborghini? THanks.
