Italy May 2011
Im flying From Seattle to Milan in May. I am headed for Florence for 2 weeks. Should I fly or take the train from Milan to Florence?
|
With Frecciarossa Train (52€ 2nd class - 70€ 1st class)it takes 1h 45 min. More or less 1 train every hour. There aren't direct flight from Milan to Florence, you must go to Rome and then from Rome to Florence.

The airport at Firenze (Florence) is 4 km outside the city so much more convenient to take the train to Santa Novella station & taxi to your hotel.
|
Would you rather fly into Florence?
I am sure you can via either London or Paris. |
Bob, I think the OP means he's already booked into flying to Milan--possibly for business--then wants to get to Florence.
Train is an easy, quick, economical way to go. No worries! Buon Viaggio, BC |
I would take the train to Santa Maria Novella station because you can probably walk to your hotel from there. If you fly into Florence you will pay 60 euro for a cab to the center of Florence.
|
Hmmm !
The taxi would be about 20E, but I think BC is correct--could be moot. |
Trenitalia is adding high-speed trains from the airport to Florence, but have not entered the winter schedules yet (should be online sometime mid-Dec and those schedules run through mid-June). Currently, there are only two trains listed per day from the airport with travel time of 2:39 (earliest departure is 12:21) and 57€. The trains mentioned above by paolina are from Milan, not the airport (Malpensa). Check Trenitalia after mid-Dec. for more time schedules from the airport.

I agree with Bob. the 15-minute ride from Florence Airport to the center of town should cost about 20 euro.

There were two of us and quite a few bags which could have been the cause of the additional fare (and I could also be mis-remembering since it was three years ago...probably mixing up that trip with another).
