Italy May
Hello All,
We are travelling to Ital in May for our Honey Moon and my 40th, We have it all planned but have 3 days spare between Florence and Sorrento. We were going to stay in Siena bt unsure since we will be spending 5 days in Florence. Any must go to places we could stay for these 3 days? Currently, we are doing Rome 4 Florence 5 Sorrento 4 Possitano 4 Palermo 4 Taormia 4 Thanks in advance :-) |
There are too many places worth a stop.
The more exotic one's might be: Lucca Elba Island, Volterra, Tarquinia, Chiusi, Giglio Island, Perugia, Assisi, Foligno, Terni, Todi, Ponza Island, Ventotene Island, Gaeta, Naples. |
Would you be using public transportation for those 3 days or driving?
Does your time in Florence involve any day trips? I would want a bit of a respite from the busy cities in the remainder of the itinerary, so my choice would be to rent a car when leaving Florence and spend those days exploring Umbria or Tuscany from a small town. Florence is my favorite Italian city, but I might take away one day and add it to these days in the countryside. But be wise in your Florence planning, because many of the main sights are not open every Sunday and/or Monday. If you don't want to drive, I would go to a city with good train and local bus service that also allows for a fairly straight-forward route to Naples/Sorrento. Siena, Perugia probably Spoleto, perhaps Arezzo. |
Any way of moving things so you can add those 3 days to Sicily? Between Palermo and Taormina would be great. All the other places, you are allowing plenty of time, but really shortchanging Sicily!!!

My thought was similar. I often think that with "extra days" people have. Why not add it to the places you are already planning to visit, instead of trying to come up with one more stop?

I think Sassafrass has provided an excellent suggestion. I'd also note that your time in Rome is surprisingly short, particularly if there's any chance that you'll have jet lag when there.
