Italy itinerary help
My husband and I are planning trip to Italy in April. In to florence on 4/23 out of rome on 5/1.
So far we have 3 nites in florence and 4 in rome. Is it possible to do positano or anywhere on the amalfi coast, which we would like to see.
Thanks for any help.

Sorry - I wasn't clear. The weather on the AC is not predictable. I've been there in April when it mostly rained or was overcast. Later in May is more likely to be better. Two places are enough for a week. Heck...I could spend the week in either one of them and be happy.

With amalfi out of the itinerary, where would you add the day? Itinerary suggestions. We would welcome some help along with any hotels , restaurants you may love. It is a very "special" anniversary for us" birthday celebration too. Thanks again

No- you really don't have time.
And that is really too early in the year for beach resorts - a lot of places won't be open yet, ferries will be on limited schedule and its possible to be quite chilly.

Since you have 2 cities on your itinerary (although Florence is a small city), you could try a smaller town for a night between Florence and Rome. Perhaps Siena or Orvieto, both on the train line although Siena is more accessible by bus.
If you're not adding a 3rd location then I would add time to Florence since I find it more relaxing than Rome.

Sounds like you are trying to figure out where to spend one extra night. A Tuscan or Umbrian town would work well between Florence and Rome. Perhaps Siena, Orvieto, or Pisa? Depending on your logistics, it might be more efficient to limit your hotel moves and stay an extra night in Florence and just day trip to a Tuscan town (Siena, Pisa, Lucca, etc). Or, add the night to Rome for a day trip to Orvieto or Ostia Antiica or Tivoli.

Second Adrianne--you can easily do a day trip to Siena from Florence, and you won't have to move, thus giving you more time to see stuff. There appear to be 40 trains a day in each direction so you could stay fairly late in Siena and escape the tourist crush. Siena is one of the more interesting places in Italy, a country full of interesting places.

phylle,
It would be more useful if you gave us a per night budget. I can do the math, but I don't know if you are meaning that $3000-$3500 is for the entire trip or for just one of the cities, or each. Please clarify.
Thanks!
