Italy Itinerary - June

Hi all,

Travelling to Italy for our honeymoon from June 7th-21st. I've got the following rough itinerary - any comments or suggestions would be welcome:

June 7th - Fly - Dublin to Bologna - stay 2 nights (need to find a hotel)
June 9th - Train - Bologna to Florence - stay 3 nights (need to find a hotel)
June 12th - Train - Florence to Naples - Bus - Naples to Positano (is this the best way to do it?) - stay 7 nights in a villa (http://www.villeinitalia.com/servlet...mp;byCodeText=)
June 19th - Bus to Naples - Train to Rome - Stay 2 nights (need to find a hotel).
June 21st - Fly Rome to Dublin

Any suggestions on best way to travel between destinations (not too keen on driving - but I will if it's easier) or on hotels in Bologna, Florence and Rome would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ken

I like your choices. Your itinerary is easily done by train and bus.

Have you been to Rome before? If not, I would suggest stealing a night from Positano and adding it to Rome.

Congratulations!

Haven't been to Rome but we are renting a Villa and they have a 7 day minimum stay. Still searching for hotels in Bologna, Florence and Rome - it's exhausting!

Not a hotel, and don't know your budget, but an upscale B&B in Florence is Tourist House Ghiberti (www.touristhouseghiberti.com). They only have 5 rooms, so may not be available for your dates, but worth a try.

Best wishes for a wonderful honeymoon and marriage.

Why Bologna? Have you been to all of the other cities in Italy yet? I stopped there when I travelled through ITaly and wouldn't suggest it if there were other places more desirable to visit!

Funny, carrie, I spent part of my honeymoon in Bologna just as Plates plans to do. Found it an interesting place, good food, and a good hub to visit Ferrara and Ravenna. My visit was more than 10 years ago so I can't recommend a hotel in Bologna. To each his/her own. . .

So you have a full week at the villa. . . even though it might seem a waste of money, I might still suggest leaving a day early, just to get more of Rome. Again, to each his/her own. . .

Only down to 2 major things now. I booked my flights this morning and booked 3 nights in Hotel Globus in Florence (www.hotelglobus.com). Just looking for a hotel for 2 nights in Bologna and 2 nights in Rome. This is much better fun than using a travel agent!

Has anyone stayed at either of the following hotels in Bologna?

Any comments on the above or alternative suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Plates,

Nice trip.

You get from Naples train station to Positano either

Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento and SITA bus to Positano

Taxi to Mollo Belvedere and take the hydrofoil to Sorrento and the SITA bus to Positano

Hire a private limo.

Since it is your honeymoon, I suggest the limo. Cost about 90E.

We were happy with Renato Cuomo - Via Caprile 2 - 80069 Vico Equense (NA), Italy.

To Positano, I would train to Salerno not Naples--easier logistics.

Hi again,

Following up on Bob's suggestion, you can take the ferry from Salerno to Positano. Nice ride.

Ferries leave Salerno (P.zza della Concordia)
08,40 ? 09,40 - 11,30 ? 14,10 ? 15,30
