Italy - Itenary Help needed first time traveller
 

Hi Guys
Me and my wife travelling to Italy for 7 days over the Easter Weekend. Flying from London to Milan and back. Ideally want to speand 3 days in Milan and 3 days in some other city or region of interest. Would like the usual mix of Culture , Relaxation and Night life. Questions are more towards the relaxation and night life side.
1) We are keeping Milan for the cutlure bit , which city / region do we go to for the other bits , Would like somewhere coastal and sunny if possible.
2) What should be the allocation of days ? Any recommendations of hotels or acommodations in Milan as well this other region please .
3) Hopefully these places are open and alive over the easter period.

I liked Milan but if you only have 7 days, then to spend 3 days in Milan seems a bit excessive. Head out to Cinque Terre region for relaxation and culture as well. I would recommend Rome (4 hours by express train) if it was a different time of the year; you wil be visiting over Easter Week and Rome will NOT be a relaxed spot.

As far as hotels; what's your budget range?

If you are set on Milan, and want coastal in addition, I would head to the Ligurian Coast. It's pretty easy via train from Milano Centrale. About 2.5 hours if I remember correctly.

Easter might be very busy and weather might be a little cool in April. Still gorgeous area, great food and scenery. Cinque Terre hiking is fun if weather permits.

3-4 days would be a nice visit.

Thanks Guys, I was thinking of going to Milan and then flying back from Rome so this sounds perfect. Based on the replied from Dayle & Viajero2, think ill go to Milan , then head of to Cinque Terre Town and then to Rome from there. Ideally in cities like Milan & Rome something basic will do with the usual clean room and healthy surrounding thrown in. Dont mind paying a lil more if the location and amenities are worth it as we do end up paying more anyways via transport etc if the location is far.
Cinque Terre Town sounds beachy and here id love to stay if possible in a villa type place closer to nature , Budger on the higher side is fine here.
Can i book train tickets for my intra italy itenary in advance ? Im sure they will be cheap if done in advance ya.

So in just 7 days you think you want to do Milan, Coast and Rome? No, no, no. Pick 2. Rome will be very busy during Easter, make your reservations now. If you live in the UK, you'll be able to visit many times. Don't try to do too much - you end up doing little.

Cinque Terre is not a town, it is a region . Cinque means five. There are 5 small towns (villages).
Dayle is so right, you have not time for 3 places in 7 days.
Are 7 full days, or they include your arrival and departure days?

Hmm they include my arrival & Departure.Ok so by the likes of it Rome may be out. Any recoomendations in Cinque Terre ? Any particular village or Hotel there.

There's no nightlife in le CInque Terre at any time of year. And you won't even find it in April in other places on the coast. If it's nice weather, places during the day will be "open and alive" but it will still be too cold to swim and at night everything is shut up that early in the year.

If you've got money, I suggest you stay in Milan half your trip and if the weather is nice, to day trips to Lago di Como, Lago Maggiore and Verona, and then head to Rome for the remainder of your trip. It's got some night life. You need to book tickets early if you are traveling in Easter week, including train tickets.

I forget to add that Rome is a huge place that is busy all the time and is used to handling Easter visitors. If you like shopping and nightlife, it's a good place to be. I know you want someplace coastal and sunny, but le Cinque Terre is really quiet. Try Santa Margherita Ligure for something with a little bit of upscale shopping (Portofino is next door). You can go next door to the town of Rapallo if SML is too dead at night. Or even go to Genova, but it's a pretty complicated town to get around.

Ok guys finally sorted my tickets but the itenary has changed totally. Im flying into Naples and returning back from Rome. Thinking of staying some time around amalfi coast in the between. My queries are which is the best place around amalfi coast for a bit of relaxing and culture and easy to travel from Naples. Should i go to Capri ? And finally any tips on Where to stay in rome for 2 days and some lively places around Rome will be much appreciated.

Wrong time of year for fun in the sun, spend three days in Milan and then train on over to Venice.

Naples is really a sewer, stay away and Capri is worse than the Jersey shore in summer. If you cannot change your tickets, just head to Rome.
