Italy information
 

I'm planning a trip to Italy (probably Rome, Venice, Tuscany & Milan) sometime next year and was wondering if any fodorites had any files on the subject. I went to London/Paris this year and found Elaine's files on those cities to be tremendously helpful. I thought if someone had a great reference file like that, it would be a good starting off point for research. I find information on this board much more useful than travel books! Thanks.

If it is more useful than travel books, perhaps it is because it is much briefer. That doesn't mean you don't owe it to yourself to read through 100, 200 or more pages on a place like Rome... or Tuscany/Florence... or many other destinations in Italy.

So you need info with training wheels to get you started, I guess... and that's okay - - just don't stop there. To even begin to appreciate with some semblance of completeness, the world heritage destinations you seek to visit really - - you really owe it to yourself to learn more than can be summarized in 25, or even ten pages of "notes".

I don't think anyone has really dared/tried to step into the shoes left behind by the master of "personal files" (website actually) by our dearly departed Ed Gehrlein of TwEnJ.com (Travels with Ed'n'Julie) - - no longer operative, but frozen in time, for the time being at http://web.archive.org/web/200003011.../romevisit.htm

And you're absolutely right, Rex. I definitely want to read everything I can on the places I want to visit. But it's also nice to get more personal advice too, that's what is so great about this board! And thanks for that website tip too.
