Thanks, we do plan on 3 days in Rome & we have all hotels booked for our 12 days in Italy, so perhaps day 1 will get cut short but you are right, how bad can the Lufthansa first class lounge be!! We've been through a coup in Fiji and a typhoon in the Cooks so we will survive this. Thanks for the encouragement & I will return with a trip report to share. I have received so much help from this site for our first Italian vacation. Ciao!

Awww... Peggy! I didn't want to be the bearer of bad news! Maybe would have been better to not know so it wouldn't hamper your excitement (that is one of the best parts of a trip!) I am sure that you are going to get to Italy and have a great trip even if it means you are delayed for a few hours. Just keep hoping for the best, and maybe they won't even strike!

kello, I am glad to know about it...funny thing is Lufthansa says they have no info on it! Obviously they just don't want to commit at this point to all the hysterical travelers questions. I'm getting more used to the idea now. I will monitor the websites for info as we get closer....and go with the flow....how bad can the first class lounge at Munich be!! They do have one, I hope....

Peggy, KLM did not advise me of the Italian aircontrollers strike when I checked in at SFO. I learned about it about one hour after I arrived at the Amsterdam airport..from a bartended and right after that my flight was marked "delayed". Leave it to bartenders to know all of the uptodate information, lol. I "think" that probably airlines don't give out the information because sometimes strikes in Italy are cancelled at the last minute so even the airlines don't know what to expect.

FYI...Sept. 6: Air Traffic controllers in Rome to strike for 8 hours from 1000...this strike has been cancelled!!! Big sigh of relief!
