Italy in the Spring
 

I am going on a nine day adventure to Rome, Florence, Milan and Venice in the beginning March and was wondering what the weather was like and general things to pack. I was also wondering if anyone has suggestions on good places to eat.

Is that 8 nights? I'd not bother with Milan given that time frame.

We were in Italy a few years ago in last March and the weather for the most part was great. In Venice though it was a bit rainy (not heavy rain, mostly jus a mist) and on the cool side (maybe 50s during the day and cooler at night). But as we moved south, it was sunny and 70s. In ROme it was over 80F.

Plan on bringing some layers, and an umbrella.

I've been there when it's snowing in March and also when it's been 65 degrees. Check ahead!

Pack to dress in layers and a collapsible umbrella for each person. The weather in the north could be extremely different from the south. But if you want to know exactly what the average temperature has been do a historical search for each city on a site such as wwww.wunderground.com.

Food in Venice is notoriously bad. If you ask the hotel for a recommendation make sure to specify that you are looking for place with local food, one where they would go to eat. You may want to try Osteria alla Botte (http://www.osteriaallabotte.it/top.htm). It is casual, the food is typical Venetian fare and it is excellent.

Food in Rome is less problematic and outside of a night in Trastevere where to eat will largely depend on the location of your hotel. The concierge at your hotel will likely prove to be the best guide to great neighborhood restaurants.
