Italy in the Fall--What to Wear??!

I will be in Italy (for the first time) during the last week of September and first week of October 2001.

What is appropriate for women to wear (I am in my late 20s)? I understand the Italians are very fashion conscious (which I certainly appreciate); however, I want to be comfortable, as well.

Of course I will be walking a lot (Rome, Venice)--does anyone have any recommendations on shoes that are stylish AND comfortable? (I imagine this is a plight of women (and men) worldwide!)

Bottom line: look good and be comfortable. . .is it possible??

All suggestions will be appreciated!

Is black really the best choice? Does everyone tend to dress "up"?

What ARE some great woman's shoes?

I'd say fall colors; cottons, linens, wools, blends, maybe some synthetics.

Leather.

Shoes.

Belt.

Suspenders.

Underwear.
