ITALY IN THE FALL??

Has anyone been to Italy in Sept. or Oct.?? Is it too cold? Or is the weather just right with less tourists? Is it less expensive to travel there around that time?

Just to think about Italy in September, it brings back awesome memories. September is perfect to travel to Italy, it's wine picking season. Weather conditions fluctuates depending where in Italy you are planning to go. For example in Tuscany, it might be a bit rainy, during the nights you'll be able to wear a light jacket, same in Venize. In the Liguria region down to Rome and Souththern Italy, it will be hot, you'll still be able to go to the beach, wear shorts, nights are beautiful and fresh. I found that airfare in September was not expensive comparing to July or August. I've flown from JFK and it average Sept. last year around $650 with Delta. Hotels, you can find good rates, you just need to search around.

Our last 3 trips to Italy and the one to come this year have been in late September and early October. The weather has been nearly perfect each time. It is not too cold but most days are cool enough to enjoy sightseeing. Unfortunately, it is not less expensive to travel in the fall. May and September are two of the nicest and most expensive times to travel.

been there both months and had beautiful weather. Can't completely rule out some rain but 90% of the time the temps were warm during the day and cool evenings. Absolutely perfect!

We went to Italy for 14 days (Rome, Tuscany, Umbria) from October 22nd -November 4th, 2003.

The weather was fairly mild, even though it was later in October, but it did rain quite a bit. Many of the locals said it was unusual to see so much rain at that time of year, but we still had a wonderful time! It was chilly in the evenings and you needed a light jacket, but that was about it.

Airfare was around $650pp from midwest to Rome.

We went to northern Italy and Tuscany in late October, and it was a little colder and rainier than we expected. September would be just about perfect in some areas, though.

I have been there 3 times and have always chosen that time of year to go.
Weather has always been real good, nice and warm but not miserably hot.
I will aways choose that time of year to go.

Hi b,

Not only is the weather nice, but the Porcini mushrooms are in season and the grapes and olives have just been harvested.
