Italy in October?
 

Hello! We're planning to visit Italy with two kids for about 12 days, covering Rome, Florence, Venice and maybe Naples. I wanted your opinion about the weather during that time and if there would be lot of rain?

Please let me know your thoughts if October is a good time to visit? Thanks in advance!

You might want to check some weather sites to see historic information. I believe there is usually not too much rain and certainly not enough to provide a reason not to visit. Start your visit in Venice and then work your way south, flying out of Rome or Naples.

12 days means only 2-3 nights in each city- think about dropping a city.

I have been in Italy twice during October, and it is a pretty good time of year to visit. It is starting to get cool, so perhaps a sweater/scarf in the day and a jacket at night. I feel like there is a noticeable change from beginning October to the end. So be prepared for it to be fairly chilly toward the end.

I agree with the comment above. Start in Venice because it is furthest North. I was in Venice at the the end of October and it was not comfortable at all.

I did research on many weather sites and it shows moderate amount of rain during October (second highest after November). Hence, my worry is if I might get stuck with all rainy days.

Obviously, no one can predict the weather; it could rain in September, usually considered a great time to be in Italy. Remember, the chances of rain are going to be higher October 31 than October 1, so take that "October average" with a grain of salt and plan your "October" trip in "Early October" if possible.

For what it's worth, I visited in early October 2007 and had excellent warm weather until my last few days in Rome, when it cooled down significantly (don't think it rained though). This October it may rain every day - who knows? You're always taking a chance with weather when you travel. Rain doesn't have to spoil it anyway especially in a cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice.
