Italy in June

We are planning a trip to Italy for 5 adults and 2 teens. We are leaving the US June 13 or 14 and leaving Italy June 22. At this stage we are narrowing down the cities/sites we want to see most, but so far Rome, Venice, Naples, and southern Italy are at the top. We haven't dedcided on flights yet because we want to pick a starting point first ( Rome or Venice, maybe?) Our interests are food, photography, history, and the beach.

So the most time you have is if you depart on June 13, which means you arrive in Italy on June 14 and will lose part of that day to getting from the airport to your first location and jetlag. The day you fly home, June 22, will be all about getting to the airport to fly home. so you have 8 nights (7.5 days) to see what you hope to see. You will really have to prioritize your interests.

Rome and Venice would make an excellent pair in that amount of time, but I would be hesitant to add more locations, because your choices would require at least a half day of travel to connect them. Rome and Naples would work nicely in that time as well. To combine Venice, Rome, and Naples means losing time to travel, so you would have barely 2 days in each location.

With only 7 days in Italy, you need to limit to two places. You don't have time for three.
