Italy in Dec

Hi Folks !!!

I am going to Italy in Mid Dec for my honeymoon. Can anyone recommend some places to see apart from Rome, Venice and Florence? Where to go for day trip from Rome, Venice and Florence? Best place to celebrate Christmas in Italy? Will be there from 15th to 27th Dec. Will be in Paris for NYE.

Ciao !!!

Hi there. Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials. We're sure you'll have a fabulous honeymoon in Italy.

The best place to start is generally with a guidebook where you can match locations to your own interests (or better yet, your wife's if you want to get your marriage off to a perfect start

If you have a library nearby, check out a few books until you find one that you like the look of. Many libraries have big coffee table size books with pictures of towns and villages. You can find one you like the look of and then start your research from there.

Pop back when you need a hand with your itinerary and the tips will be forthcoming. Don't assume that you have to fly into & out of the same airport.

Have fun with your research - many people think the trip starts when you start the planning... I definitely do!!

Its probably going to be cold and wet in December. With the possibility of snow in the Alps. Days will be short and maybe overcast. I'd try and stick in one or two places and (unless I was skiing and Mrs Bilbo does not really like it) I'd stay in the cities.

None of the cities you suggest need a car.

I think I'd suggest staying in Florence as that allows you days out in Lucca and Pisa by train and maybe a car trip to Siena.

I live in Italy and bilboburger's description of December in Italy is quite distant from reality. Weather is unpredictable, and many days in December are sunny and pleasant. Of course there is snow in the mountains, but you haven't mentioned wanting to go to the mountains.

The nature of the lagoon climate of Venice means you are likely to get overcast skies and drizzle in the winter.

I agree with the suggestion you look at a guidebook and identify your interests. Italy has just about every conceivable kind of attraction. Some people want to see more ancient sites. Others wish to visit wineries. Others like to visit Renaissance towns. Or Juliet's balcony in Verona. People can't give you good suggestions if they don't what you and your fiance like to do.
