Italy Hotel Recommendations?

Now that we have our itinerary, we need to start booking hotels! We are going to Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre, and Venice. Staying about 3 days in each in August. We would like to keep in the $100-$200/night range and we want to stay in areas w/in reasonable walking distance to the major attractions-but not in "bad" areas of town. We don't carry about all the extra amenities, however we do prefer to have our own bathroom and air conditioning!

If you have any recommendations for hotels that meet that criteria (and if they have a web address, that would help).

Thanks!
April

Hi C

Have you entered <(city name) and Hotel> in the "search this forum" box?

In Florence we stayed at Hotel Accademia - well located, nice, clean, good sized rooms. No elevator so its a 2-star but has A/C which you'll need in August. We stayed at starwood properties in both Rome and Venice to use up some points.

I would recommend
Venice - starhotel splendid suisse - think it was ~$150US and good location between rialto and st. mark's
Rome - Hotel Montreal, near Santa Maria Maggiore, ~$100US
Cinque Terre - I always just stay at Albergo Barbara in Vernazza - clean, cheap - I paid 45 euros for a double with shared bathroom. Right on the town square/beach.

FLorence - Hotel Casci. If you do a text search you'll find lots of posts praising Casci.
