Italy honeymoon help!
 

Hi,
My fiance and I are planning a 2 week trip to Italy for our honeymoon, and we'd love some advice. We know we want to go to Florence and explore a bit of the surrounding wineries and countryside of Tuscany, and we want to go to Cinque Terre (sp?). I'd also love to check out an island, and it seems that Corsica makes the most sense since it's the nearest to Florence. Can anyone tell me about Corsica? Does this sound like a nice vacation plan? We want it to be relaxing, but filled with interesting stuff as well. We'd prefer not to drive, is that possible with this itinery? I'll ask for more specific help (hotels, etc.) when we finalize where we want to go! Thanks so much. I've heard this board is a huge help and can't wait to hear what you say!

I have no info on Corsica, but an island off the the italian coast near Florence is Elba and it is supposed to be a nice destination.
While I am not scared to travel these days
(having taken 4 trips overseas since summer 2001, returning from the last with my children last month)
I thought Corsica has been going through some internal problems , which might make it less pleasant for travel.

The greatest honeymoon place on earth....Capri. Lemon trees in bloom, winding paths, a full moon over the Bay of Naples,....as the song says "who could ask for more." Seriously, my wife and I have been married for 26 years and we felt like newlyweds on Capri.

Keep in mind that Corsica, while closer to Italy, is part of France, and French in culture and language - - though there is some element of "separatism" (unrest?) there in the past decade, I think.

Although not plentiful, I think there are some positive posts here on this forum, about Elba, or also specifically on the town of Portoferraio there.

Corsica is wonderful and there are no political problems that impact tourists. The cities in the south part of the island are the best because you can watch the sun rise or set. The pace of life is very slow and this is a favorite destination for the French people. The food in this area is some of the best in France.
