Italy Honeymoon

Hi, we are traveleing to Italy for our honeymoon and wanted to see what you think of our itinerary as well as get some driving/train advice. Here's the plan so far:

10/26 - 10/29 Rome
10/29 train to Naples - ferry to Positano, take ferry and/or driver or bus to nearby towns
11/2 - train from Naples to florence - rent car and explore florence and tuscany area
11/7 - train or car to bolzano (family there)
11/9 - Venice - car or train
11/12 - car or train to rome and fly home

Thoughts? Too much in one trip? Any help is really appreciated. Thank you!

If you haven't already booked flights then you need to fly into Venice or Milan and out of Rome and start your trip either in Venice or Bolzano.

Hi Tcan - There is no Naples-Positano hydrofoil service at this time of year.

If you wish to arrive in Positano by sea, take the train to SALERNO.
From Salerno (- Piazza della Concordia jetty) you can continue to Positano by ferry.
The jetty is a short walk (- 5 mins) from Salerno station.

There are currently ferry departures from Salerno (- weather permitting) at:

- 9.20 - 10.30 – 12.30 - 15.00 - 16.20

Alternatively you may prefer to arrange a limo transfer from Naples direct to your Positano hotel.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Definitely go with the open-jaw air ticket (fly into Rome and out of Venice or vica versa). Don't waste time backtracking to Rome, there's no need for that.

tcan,

Flying into and out of Rome is not good. Again Fly into Rome or Naples and out of Venice or the reverse. What is your home airport in the US?

You can easily take trains (cheap!) everywhere you are planning with the exception of Tuscany. Consider doing all of your Florence sightseeing before renting a car there.

I also don't think November is the best time for the Amalfi coast. At most, you might consider one day trip from Naples for that.

Here's one possibility based upon what you started with:

10/26 Fly into Naples
10/27 Naples (there is SO much to see and do!)
10/28 Day trip to Pompeii OR Positano OR Salerno OR Capri
10/29 Train to Rome
10/30 Rome
10/31 Rome
11/01 Rome
11/02 Train to Florence
11/03 Florence
11/04 Florence
11/05 Drive - Tuscan day trip
11/06 Drive - Tuscan day trip
11/07 Train to Bolzano
11/08 Bolzano
11/09 Train to Venice
11/10 Venice
11/11 Venice
11/12 Catch boat (Alilaguna) to Venice airport and fly home.

This is a good framework - you can adjust by adding or subtracting lengths in particular destinations.

And congratulations on you marriage!

Wow! Thank you all for your thoughtfulness and care. We are getting really excited and your comments helped. We are going to fly into Munich and train to bolzano and then venice and down...

Thank you so much. Tyler
