Italy Here we Come - 21 days

My husband and I are going to Italy from Sept. 4th to Sept. 26th and we need your help with the planning. We fly into Naples and fly out of Rome. We are completely open to ideas. Here is what we have so far.
Sept. 5-13 - Amalfi Coast and surrounding area. We need to relax and take it easy the first week.
Sept. 13-14 - rent car from Naples, drive to Siena. Stay overnight. Need budget accommodation suggestions and ideas on what to see.
Sept. 14-16 - 5Terre. Need budget accommodation suggestions, even outside of 5Terre.
Sept. 16 - 20 - Venice. Is this too long to see Venice? Should we spend a night in Bologna? Need budget accommodation suggestions.
Sept. 20-23 - Chiusi as base. See Florence and Pisa. This is firm, as I have a deposit on a house.
Sept. 23-26-Back to Ravello area - meeting up with friends there.

Wow--fabulous trip. Can I tag along?
I would rent an apt. on the AC---see
Why not get the car in Sorrento rather then Naples?
Your time in Venice is about right.
Why the Chiusi location? You will not see Pisa from there. I would get closer to Siena.
When you drive back to Ravello look at the back road over the hills rather than on the coast.

Hi Bob, I will look about getting the car in Sorrento, rather than Naples. The villa in Chiusi advertised train service to Florence, Pisa and other small towns. Thanks for the advice.

Too much backtracking IMHO. What do you mean by budget(€'s?)?

I would move Venice to right after Amalfi. Train to Venice from Naples. From Venice train to Florence. Rent your car as you are leaving Florence to head for the CT and visit Pisa on the way. After CT head south via Siena.

Do you plan to keep your car on your return to Amalfi area? If not, I would drop it in Chiusi or Orvieto(after visiting southern Tuscany from Siena)and catch a train to Naples/Amalfi area.

Four nights is definitely not too long for Venice.

After the drive from Naples or Sorrento, you won't have much time in Siena and then are on the road again the next day.

It doesn't make sense to go all the way back to Ravello at the end for three nights after having been down there at the beginning of the trip. Plus, if you're flying out of Rome, you need to be in Rome at least the night before the flight. Do not plan to travel TO Rome on the day of your flight!

And of course, I'd spend more time in Rome, although I admit it's my favorite place. (Not that I don't like Amalfi or Venice!)

Sounds as though you already have your flights? If not, it would make a lot more sense to fly into Venice and work your way down to the Amalfi Coast, having all your Amalfi time together at the end, fly out of Naples.
