Jboz1,
I started out thinking I'd use a Trafalgar tour called "Real Italy" as it hit almost all of the places I hoped to see. After checking out the hotels that they used on the tour and reading posts about date changes at the last minute, I decided to do some research online.
I'm planning a trip for Spring Break 2007 with my 17 yr old daughter. You may have seen the thread, but if you haven't, I've gotten lots of good advice. I switched the order of my trip from arriving in Rome and departing from Venice to the other way around. In addition to this site...the Tripadvisor site has been extremely helpful. The fact that you have relatives there is an added bonus in that I'm sure they can give you lots of first hand advice.
So far I plan the following:
- Fly into Venice and stay at Locanda Orseolo for 3 nights...recommended on this site and Trip Advisor rated it very highly.
- Train to Florence for 3 nights...don't have hotel reserved yet
- Train to Rome for 5 nights...almost decided on accommodations. Switched the order of arrival and departure so that I will be in Rome for Holy weekend. Hoping to get tickets for Easter Mass at the Vatican, but was told I won't hear until after Christmas.
Hope to do day trips to Assisi and Verona...possibly Pisa. Savint that planning until after I get the other things nailed down.
I'm glad to see you have 12 days...I extended my trip one day on either side once I started my research. A day or two of missed school isn't the end of the world!
Good luck! Thread is Help for Spring Break in Italy.
