ok thanks guys, you all have been very nice to me and not rude. few people can be really intimadating here.

so we have booked the tickets FINALLY.

we fly into rome and out of venice.the flight is out of here is not too early so thats ok.

we are going to be there from 15th july to 1st august.

so we are going to fly into rome very early morning.

we are thinking to go directly to naples.
stay at sorrento.

from then are we still need to plan. we met someone who is from italy and said we should perugia? any comments?

also are the train tickets cheaper at the station or online?

also is the roma pass worth the money and what about the hop on and hop off pass?

also is verona worth the visit?

thanks everyone for your help.

ok - into Rome, out of Venice. 15 July to 1 Aug = 17 nights?

working backwards - 4 nights in Venice - leaves 13 nights.

here's a suggestion: you should aim for as much variety as possible - not spend all your time in Cities, as Italy is more, much more than that.. Rome is big - sometimes possibly a little scary to plunge into just off the plane. therefore to work yourselves in, as you like the idea, from Rome go straight to the amalfi/sorrento. stay 4 nights.

then go back to Rome. you'll be more in tune with Italy now - stay 4 nights.

now head for the countryside - somewhere in Umbria or tuscany - you might want to hire a car -

OR - go north to the lakes - you've got to go that way anyway to get to Venice - and stay on Lake Garda. loads to do - boat trips, walking, cable car trips up a mountain - plus the possibility of a day trip to Verona.

anyway stay 5 nights.

end up in venice - 4 nights.

ok, you can tweak this a bit, take a night from venice and give it to Rome or the amalfi, but overall, it gives you a little of everything without being frantic or bitty.

have fun!

Hi LaurenP would love to chat with you about the trip you were discussing (above). How much did you find it cost you for that trip?? I am looking at something similar. Thanks!
