ITALY FIRST QUICK TRIP - Amalfi
#21
From Naples airport, catch the bus into the city, it's only 3km and costs about a euro each. The bus runs to the main train station, Centrale and once there, head downstairs following the signs for the Circumvesuviana line. This is a commuter train that will take you straight into Sorrento. It stops on the way at Pompeii Scavi for the entrance to the site, so just catch the train in Sorrento to visit Pompeii.
The same train also stops at Herculaneum, (Ercolano) if you want to go there.

There is bus service between the Naples Airport and Sorrento. No need to go into Naples to catch a train. 10 euros one way per person. You can buy tickets on the bus, but advance purchase is recommended.

I second Jean's suggestion of the bus between Naples airport and Sorrento. Very convenient and a nice big coach, no fuss, no muss.
If you are still not sure of hotels in Sorrento we loved the hotel Mediterraneo in Sant'Agnello - it's a pleasant 15 minute stroll into the centre of Sorrento or the hotel runs a shuttle. You are on the cliff and if you get a sea view room you look straight out into the Bay of Naples- it was a wonderful way to wake up each morning. Breakfast is included and served in the rooftop dining room- again sea views. Nice staff, very clean, modern decor in public spaces, rooms comfortable, perhaps a tad dated. They have a pool though not sure about April if it would be open yet; they also have a lounge with piano player and happy hour. Very pleasant neighbourhood with lemon trees etc all around. www.mediterraneosorrento.com
Have fun, we loved Sorrento, you can do some nice day trips from there or you can just relax and soak up the beauty.
