Italy: Drive from Como to the Matterhorn

Hi, we're staying in Como for 2 nights then making our way down through Cinque Terre to a Villa in Tuscany. Is it possible to drive to the Matterhorn then to Cinque Terre in 2 nights?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Som

Hi Som - Do you mean Cervinia (- the Italian side) or Zermatt (- the Swiss side)?

It's a bit of a detour - but yes, it's perfectly possible.

Som: When are you doing this drive? We are going to fly to Zurich next June and will have to get to a villa in Tuscany also.

Am thinking about stopping at the Cinqua Terra, but don't know where to stay there.

Can you give me any ideas?

You cannot drive to Matterhorn as no private cars are allowed in Zermatt. What is that town where you must leave the car and take the train?

The train stops in the center of Zermatt, very walkable village.

I think you can only drive up to Taesch.

Yes I thought of Cervinia as it's closer; not sure if we'd stay overnight there or continue South; any thoughts?
We land in Milan on the 10th of May.

We flew to Zurich in '06 stayed a couple of days on our way to Venice for a cruise...we took the train to Lucerne for 2 nights then again to Milan and picked up a car and drove to Bellagio for 2 nights then headed to Venice with a day stop in Verona. Not sure where to stay in the Cinque Terre area but may stay either North or South of the area then it would be closer to Tuscany.

Som - You certainly get a lovely view of the Matterhorn from Cervinia. I probably wouldn't choose to overnight there - but it really depends how you plan to spend your time.

If you do decide to stay overnight, stay right in the village centre - avoid the high-rise hotels on the outskirts.
