Italy Dolomites in early April

Hi! I really want to visit dolomites but im not sure where to stay or what to visit simply because of the lack of lifts and people saying many rifugios are closed for hiking. I would be more than happy just to explore nature in the nearby area and/or if possible still be able to go for a day hike near my accommodation.

I need suggestions because my trip is soon and i forgot all about it until recently going over my itinerary.
Thank you to everyone in advance

Will you have a car? How many days will you be there? Where will you be coming from and where do you go after the Dolomites?

I assume your three days means four nights...

The Dolomites region has fairly extensive public transportation, but the area is huge, driving speeds for the most part are low, so what you can see/do in three days is probably limited. Although access to operating lifts is a plus, there are trailheads all over the place that you don't need lifts to access.

But the condition of various trails in early April is another whole issue that you should research. Depending on the elevation, there will be snow, snow/rain or just rain.

Without a car, my first destination choice would be Bolzano for the variety of options in the event it's raining buckets. Trento, Bressanone and Merano are all within an hour by train, and there are lots of bus routes into the mountains. I highly recommend the South Tyrol Archeology Museum in Bolzano where the main exhibits are about Otzi the Iceman.

In early April you may hike along the hiking trails in the Valleys (like the Waalwege in Val Venosta) and don't need any mountain hut for that.
