Italy Dilemma
I just saw this excellent deal on expedia.com for $511 rt from Atlanta to Rome in September when I am planning a trip to Italy. I am in a bit of a bind since I wanted to fly into Rome and out of Venice to end the trip there w/out the hassle of having to get back to Rome to do a rt flight. The cost to do a different return city is very expensive and I am looking to cut costs. Can anyone tell me how I would get from Venice back to Rome at the end of my trip, and how long the travel takes.
Thanks in advance. Nicole |
I would take Eurostar from Venice back to Rome. I'm not sure of the exact distance, but my rough guess would be about seven hours.
|
There is a direct Eurostar from Venice to Rome. Takes about 4.5 hours.
|
Try putting in a smaller airport. When I looked at Expedia last night for cvg to Rome it was $775 but when I change to Naples, Florence or Pisa etc. it is $525 even with open jaw flights. I just put in some random September dates and got Atlanta/Rome and Venice/Atlanta for $476. The closest airports to Venice that you might try are Trieste, Bologna, and Verona if you can't find good prices out of Venice for your dats.

Thank you both, what is Eurostar?
|
Eurostar is a special fast train only stopping in major cities.
|
Verona or Trieste would be within an hour train ride from Venice. Rome would be 5 hours. After you pull up fares on Expedia on the left hand side click on Venice and select one of the other airports and hit search again and see if you get a better price.

Nicole,
Try Orbitz and price out the difference. For our trip last year, the price for flying into Rome and out of Venice turned out to be same as flying in and out of Rome. I don't remember Expedia having the same 'deal'. Good luck! |
Check on Orbitz. I booked an open jaw into Venice and out of Rome for June/July this weekend for $502 each. It was much cheaper on Orbitz than Expedia. You could also try getting a Ryan Air flight from Venice back to Rome for very cheap if that doesn't work.

Thank you everyone for your responses, I appreciate it. Unfortunately I missed out of the deals yesterday and Sunday. I waited and when I went back to book, they went up to $900 something. I will keep checking daily, or I should say, hourly:) Thanks!

You still have plenty of time. Wait and see, there will probably be more sales coming. I usually book around 5-6 months in advance. Keep checking expedia for the next couple of months. I would hold out for a better rate. From my experience, open jaws tend not to cost more than round trips. We've done this several time (including the rome - venice ticket).

" You could also try getting a Ryan Air flight from Venice back to Rome for very cheap if that doesn't work."
Ryan air shows no such flights. In fact there are no flights at all inside Italy. |
Thank you all again for your help, I am going to continue to check the flight daily and plan to hold out since I do have some time.
Thanks again. |
I just booked airline tickets on Volareweb.com for $185 for 4 of us including taxes from Venice to Naples. I believe they go to Rome. I was a little nervous at first because I never heard of them then I found out that a co-worker had just flown on them and said they were very good. Just watch out for the weight of your luggage.
I'm leaving for Italy the end of April and I can't wait. |
