Italy Converter

Is the converter I need for Italy just the universal 2 prong or is it a 3 prong?

You need an adapter, probably not a converter. Check your devices' power ratings. If they say 100-220v, then you only need adapters.

I can't imagine needing a converter anywhere in Europe. You need a 2€ adapter, available from a zillion places both in Italy and overseas. A 2-prong will almost always work in a 3-prong outlet IME.

Convertors change the voltage. Adapters adapt the plug.

What device(s) are you using? Most small electronics today are multi or even universal voltage. Read the label on the power adapter. If you see 220V or a range like 100-220V your device will work with just a plug adapter. If the device doesn't support 220V it might not make sense to get a convertor. Larger devices need LARGE converters that are heavy and expensive.

For small devices that only need an adapter the standard EU two pin works fine

You are correct adapter was what I meant to ask about. So it looks like I would be ok with either a 2 prong or the 3 prong...am I reading this correctly?

Thank you

If you mean an Italian three prong likely. BUT unless you're taking larger devices that pull a fair bit of power stick to the standard EU two pin. It'll work every place. An Italian three pin will only work in Italy.

Yup, that's why I said a two-prong will always work (and is easier to find).
