Italy beginning of Oct.
 

We plan on going to Rome, Cinque Terre, Sienna and Lake Como. Will it be cold and or rainy?

That's one of the best times of the year to Italy! Sure, it might rain, but in general, you'll have mild weather.

Thanks, I am sooo excited. Last year we went in August. I can't remember anything about the trip except being hot.

I'm actually going in August. Was it horrible? Should I be worried?

Last year was record breaking. It shouldn't be like that again. We went the same time the year before and though Rome was hot the evenings were great and every where north was perfect. Will you be north or south?

October is a great time to visit, the weather has cooled off a bit but is not "cold" or unbearable. You will need a light sweater or jacket at night when the temps dip down, but the day time is wonderful. I was in the CT, Siena, and Rome in October 2 years ago (more recently of course too!) but distinctly remember October being a beautiful month to visit.

We have been in Rome in August...prepare for heat. Plus, many of the citizens are on vacation so the city is not as crowded. It will still be crowded, just not as bad.

No matter what, the Vatican will not allow you in shorts. I tried....and failed. Had to buy ROMA pants from the Catholic book store. My wife still laughs at that one.

September/October is great. We did Milan, Venice, Siena, Cinque Terre and Lake District during those months and the weather was great for the two weeks. Always the chance of some bad weather, but odds are with you.
