I live in Piedmont and have a B&B so I can share my thoughts: First of all I wold say by now every hotel, room, villa, B&B pension and hostel in Piedmont is full for the 3 weeks of the games, if you are going and don't have a room, better to stay in Milan with lots of hotels and head to Turin by train. Will there be a ripple effect? I am sure that many visitors will take the opportunity of being in Italy to visit some of the other parts of Italy, but February is not prime season (we are usually closed) and so I can't see a huge impact of prices or fares in other parts of Italy. Game tickets, I haven't checked, but maybe some are available for the outdoor events, the iceskating I am sure is sold out, and with the astronomical prices of the opening/closing ceremonies I am sure some are still to be had, an earlier posting in this thread gave the official game site link and you can order tickets here. Turin is well worth a visit though, I would not call it working mans baroque, sure Fiat and other places where located here, but the centre retains an elegant baroque charm and richness as befitting Italy's first royal capital and seat of the Savoy family, one of Europes richest and longest surviving royal families. All their palaces are now wonderful museums and galleries.

I just wanted to give those who are traveling to Italy for the Olympics a big thumbs up! The Olympics are such a wonderful experience, one you will never regret making the effort to attend, or forget.

One of my friends who came to spend a week with me during the SLC 2002 Olympics, and who is not a sports person AT ALL, had such a great time that he is going to the Torino 2006 Olympics.

Go if you can!
