Italy and Croatia-Two Weeks in September

We are planning on taking our honeymoon through Italy and Croatia. Don't have a set plan but was thinking of flying into Rome and then going down the Amalfi Coast and renting a car or training to Bari and taking the ferry to Dubrovnik. We hadn't quite figured out what we should do on the way home--maybe leave out of Venice or ferry back to Bari and leave from Rome again.

Any suggestions/help/ideas for this plan? I am not sure if we are biting off more than we can chew with driving through Italy or if we should pick other cities to fly in and out from.

IF you can fly out of Dubrovnik, then it could work, with a week and a half in Italy and finishing up in Dubrovnik. With two weeks, I would not try to go all the way to Venice--it would just be too rushed.
You have the Italy logistics pretty well thought out I think, but you may be underestimating how long you want to be there. For Croatia, it would take at least a week to go from south to north and do it well, and that would leave Italy with only a week.
You might consider some place to add to Italy, such as one of the islands or Puglia/Basilicata.
Of course you could just visit Italy, and save Croatia for a 1st (or 5th) anniversary. DH and I honeymooned in Croatia and have returned. Several years into our marriage, we began being able to afford Italy and will return there as well.
Check out your flight options and come back with your options.

Why mix the two when both deserve at least 2 weeks each?
The travel logistics will kill 2 days for you just to get to Dubrovnik and back---a waste of time.

Thanks!

A lot to think about! I semi-agree about the waste of time between traveling. I am also not sure about driving across Italy. I will post when we get flights.
