Italy - Amalfi? if so where? Positano? Ravello?

Hi

I will be travelling to Italy this year for 1 week with my Husband in June or July. We have previsouly stayed in Ischia which we loved however we are not sure whether we want to try some place new this time...

We are debating whether to try the Amalfi? but not sure which area would suit us best? We loved Ischia for its lovely little sreet filled with nice shops and restaurants... the beaches were lovely and it was not dead expensive...

Can any one recommend where i should be looking at in the Amalfi? for a nice beach? Shops? and plenty of restaurants? ae there any less tourist areas?

Thanks

Amanda

Nice beach
Shops
Ristorantes
Less tourists

Sorry, that does not compute.

Well Ischia has all of those things and is not very touristy at all, not compared to the likes of Capri. I was simply asking whether there was anywhere else like this instead of going back to Ischia. I have had a repsonse for Sperlonga outside of Rome, this is quite similar.

So thanks for your help...???!!!!

What bob is trying to say in his brusque homespun way, is that the four elements you suggest are not typical of the Amalfi Coast. In the main, this is a busy touristy area, especially during the day. The evenings are much better after the day trippers have left.

Positano is the most commercial but prettiest of the AC villages and has most of what you want. Amalfi and Ravello are not pretty villages IMHO. Ischia is the road less travelled in comparison but I'd want to stay in Positano if it was my first AC visit.

I agree Positano

If you are fit and healthy, go to Positano. It is utterly charming but on a steep incline with lots of steps. There are some fabulous restaurants and some more ordinary but good restaurants. Plenty of shops and a couple of beaches and fantastic views. There will probably be plenty of tourists too, but they will just be walking through. I suggest one of the hotels at least half way down the hillside or lower to avoid the crowds. There are no roads to the bottom, only footpaths and steps.

Amanda,
Where did you stay in Ischia?

Look at Maiori/Minori---you may get 3 of 4.

Another vote for Positano - but it has tourists. Any town that has fewer tourists on the AC is generally more difficult to reach via public transport.

Another vote for Positano. I went in 2011 and I dream of going back. It is absolutely charming and yes it can be busy with day trippers, but when they all go back to Sorrento on the last ferry, the crowds thin out. Even with all the day trippers, I would still take Positano any day. The flowers, the walkways along the sea, the village, the food.....ugh! I miss it so much.

If beach time is a priority, I would look at photos on Google of the beaches of Sardegna, Elba and Puglia.

You might also look at hotel availability everywhere, because I think some of these destinations book up early for June/July, especially weekends.
