ITALY ALONE IN MAY??
 

I am considering a trip to Italy--Venice, Florence, and Rome starting about May 1st for two weeks. Will these cities be too crowded? I will be on sort of a budget and will be alone.<BR><BR>All comments will be appreciated.

Harvey<BR>Being on a budget and being alone won't make the difference with reference to crowds or no crowds. I've traveled alone to Venice and Rome and found it easy to chat with people and even end up with<BR>dinner companions, compatriots who were staying at the same hotel.<BR>Yes there will be crowds,not the worst of the crowds, just crowds.<BR>Don't wait much longer to book budget hotels, they are mostly well-known and many fill up as long as a year in advance.<BR>I have files on your cities; if you'd like to see them, email me.<BR>Good luck

Harvey, I too have been to Venice, Florence and Rome on all sorts of budgets at all times of the year and usually alone, though sometimes I met up with friends along the way at certain points. May is a fabulous time to go and as someone else pointed out, these cities will always be crowded to some degree. But I wouldn't let that deter you. If you start planning now you should easily be able to map out a trip that suits your budget. I've had some of my best adventures while travelling alone...I'm sure you will too. Good luck.

Why are you going alone? It is so much more enriching to share fabulous Italy with someone else. Are you single?

Is it really necessary to book reservations a year in advance for Rome, Florence and Venice hotels? As much as I like to plan ahead my job dictates when I can take time off. I am lucky if I can book 4 months in advance. Will I have a lot of problems booking then?

Sophia, I booked about a month or so in advance for my trip planned for September, then I had to cancel because of 9/11. I rebooked a couple of weeks in advance for October without much of a problem. I stayed in Rome, Siena, and Florence.<BR><BR>Harvey, Travelling alone in Italy was a lot of fun. I found the Italians very friendly and I met a lot of interesting people from all over the world. I've travelled with people before and I definitely enjoy going alone more.

Sophia, you should have no problem waiting until 3 or 2 months before your leave. With your name, you could probably get any room you want the night before!
