Italy 9 day Itinerary
Hi everyone!
I was wondering if you could please take a look at my pending itinerary, I'll be visiting Italy in the beginning of May with my boyfriend, we are both in our 20s. We will be flying from Toronto to Rome, and flying out from there (something that I am sort of confused about as well). We will be there for 9 nights. Here is our basic itinerary, please let me know if it is feasible/makes sense, and can be done, in terms of cities. Friday Day 1: Arrival to Rome, relaxing, exploring, etc. Saturday Day 2: Rome- Vatican, vatican museum Sunday Day 3: Rome-colosseum, pantheon, spanish steps, trevi fountain Monday Day 4: Leave for Salerno Tuesday Day 5: day trips to either capri or position, Wednesday Day 6: Leaving Salerno to Florence Thursday Day 7: Florence - somewhere in these days id like to do day trips to lucca and pisa Day 8: Florence day trips (Oh and a wine tour) Day 9: Last day in florence Day 10: leave florence to rome, going home. 1. Is 3 days in Rome enough? and is 4 days in Florence too much? 2. whats open and closed on the weekends/sundays? 3. Should I fly in/out of another city? the only reason Im doing rome is bc i found a good one way ticket with air transit, but the only other city they offer flights to is venice. should i consider flying in/out of somewhere else? i just don't want to make things complicated in terms of transportation, train, etc. Thank you all so much in advance, appreciate all your advice and expertise!! |
hi
you can do Colosseum, pantheon, spanish steps, trevi fountain all in one day, colosseum and pantheon in the morning and spanish steps and trevi fountain later in the day. I wouldn't spend more than 2.5 days in Rome, spend 3 days in Positano or Amalfi Coast and 3 in Florence as well. Pisa, Siena, San Gigigmano, wine country trip can be done in a day, for 9 days Italy trip, try to maximize by taking a day trips with a guided tour. you can see a lot in short time. enjoy.. |
>>1. Is 3 days in Rome enough?<<
You could spend more, but that depends on your interests. It looks as if you're hitting the major tourist spots, so it's OK. >>is 4 days in Florence too much?<< It looks as if you're spending only one day in Florence and the rest on day trips outside of Florence. >>2. whats open and closed on the weekends/sundays?<< For example? Where? >>3. Should I fly in/out of another city?<< Well, you are backtracking to Florence, and backtracking is never a good idea if you can avoid it. Maybe your airfare deals dictate your itinerary. Otherwise, I probably would fly into Naples, do the AC/Salerno, then head to Florence, then to Rome. |
I would suggest flying into Rome, and out of Venice. That way you could do:
4 days Rome (take it easy first 2 days from jet lag) 3 days Florence, with day trip to Lucca/Pisa or... 3 days Venice, with day trip to Padua or... Just my two cents! |
I'm very confused.
Have you looked at a map? Where are the 4 days in Florence? You have one day in Florence (Day 9 - you seem to want to use other nights sleeping there for several different day trips) Also wahy go to Salerno? Much easier to visit Capri and Positano from Sorrento. And IMHO you are doing an awful lot of moving around and very little time actually seeing/doing things. I would fly into Naples and out of Rome - sleep in Sorrento, Florence and Rome - and slow down if you want to see much. |
Sorrento (Salerno is another place) is the right place for day trips to Capri (by boat) and Positano.
But dont' forget Pompei and the stunning museums of Naples where you will find the best pieces from Pompei. 3 full days at Rome and 2 full days at Florence are the strict minimum for somewhat decent visits of these cities. Count more if you want to explore the surroundings too. As a general rule, Italian museums are closed on Monday. But there are tons of exceptions. Google for the place you want to see or tell us which museums you mean. Banks, offices, and many shops are closed on Sundays. Florence is equidistant to the airports of Rome (FCO), Venice (VCE) and Milan (MXP). All 3 have direct flights to Toronto. |
Naples/Rome open jaw is a brilliant idea. Naples-Sorrento-Florence-Rome.
You can get a bus from the Naples airport to Sorrento, then a train to Naples on Circumvesuviana: http://www.napoliunplugged.com/naple...uviana-railway Naples to Florence is a less than a three hour train ride, and Florence back to Rome less than 1,5 hours. Buying tickets on trenitalia use the italian city names. |
