Italy

Me and my boyfriend, age 20, want to go to Italy for four days and are wondering what cities would be the best for us. Also what cities are close to do for day trips? I was thinking to decide between Rome or Venice.

I would say Rome. Of course, Rome is one of my favorite cities, and I've never been to Venice, so I guess I'm biased! There is just so much to do. The city is lively and full of interesting piazzas, beautiful churches, and so much history. From Rome you could daytrip to Orvieto or see the ruined town of Ostia Antica, although I would probably spend the entire time just taking in Rome. I've been there twice and still have quite a list of things I still want to do when I get back.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

Do you want romance, sightseeing, shopping, museums, ancient history...???

Romance - Venice, though 3 days is about how long I generally like to spend there. FYI - Venice is expensive.

Museums - Florence, in my opinion. The Vatican museums and the Borghese Gallery in Rome are also spectacular.

Ancient Ruins and nonstop sightseeing - Rome (a lot of hustle and bustle).

Is this trip four days long in duration? Or is this four days out a bigger itinerary? Are you crossing an ocean to get to Europe/Italy? What month?

More info will make for better answers.

Best wishes,

Rex

Either has plenty to see and do for 4 days. If you want nightlife, Rome is better. If you want quiet (no cars, no motorbikes, no buses) and interesting little streets to explore, Venice is better.

I enjoy both cities, but my favorite in Europe is Venice.

Oh, and I wouldn't lose sleep over the decison--it's like choosing between steak and lobster. Both are great.

We are flying from Frankfurt to Italy. Does anyone know if he can fly with his Military ID card and leave orders? The four days are the only days on this trip, just a weekend away.

Since there isn't a jet lag issue - - and since you can go to Venice another time I would vote for three days Rome, with one day trip to Florence (95 minutes away by train) - - or maybe make Florence an overnight.

Best wishes,

Rex

My husband has flown with just orders and an id before, but you would have to check with the airline itself regarding that matter, unless you are taking an A-class flight!
