Italy - Left Luggage at Florence stn
I am planning a trip to Italy.
I will travel by train from Venice to Rome, I am thinking of leaving Venice in the morning, spending as much time as possible in Florence and then continuing to Rome the same day. Is this possible?
I have been to Florence before, but I don't remember the city too well.
Is there a secure left luggage at the train station where I can leave my luggage for a few hours, how do they charge? Is the left luggage an office or lockers, if it is the locker type how big a suitcase will the locket accomodate? Is it easy to get a locker?
Does Florence only have one train station. When I went to the trentitalia website I get two options for Florence - FI.RIFR and FI.SMN, which should I choose.
Finally, which type of train should I choose, trentitalia gives a choice of IC plus, (which takes longer) A or ES. What's the difference between A and Es type trains?

It's possible.
There is a manned luggage deposit that charges by the hour at Firenze SMN - Santa Maria Novella, which is the station you want. Firenze Rifredi is inconvenient for central Florence.
The AV trains use newer equipment than the ES trains, but they go no faster on the Venice-Florence stretch.
For AV, ES and ICPlus trains, a seat reservation is included in the price. You have to buy two separate tickets Venice-Florence, Florence-Rome, because the tickets are only valid on the train for which they are booked.

Hello SiSer, when you get off the train and walk down to the end of the tracks, turn left and you will find the luggage office on your right. I don't know what the cost is however. They no longer have lockers. DO make sure you know the hours that the luggage office is open as you don't want to return to find out they are closed.

The luggage deposit is open from 6:00 am to midnight. The charge is 3.80 Euro for the first 5 hours, 0.60 Euro per hour for the next 7 hours.
The last train for Rome leaves at 9:52 pm - long before midnight!
